How did the tree get its name? It is named the George Washington Witness Tree of Delaware because of the Council of War ordered by General George Washington. This council was held on that property on September 6th, 1777... Sometimes the tree has been called "The Witness Tree," which can be very confusing as there are several witness trees. It is also located in the State of Delaware.

The George Washington Witness Tree of Delaware Museum is online. The tree is located in the front garden of the Hale-Byrnes House at 606 Stanton Christiana Rd, Newark, DE, 19713.

Come on out and visit the Hale-Byrnes House and see the George Washington Witness Tree. Take a selfie and post online to spread the word! They are open 12:00-3:00 on the first Wednesday of each month and have public programs listed on their website which is listed in our links.

"Little" George Washington Witness Tree No.1 is located at the Pittsgrove Municipal Building at 989 Centerton Rd, Pittsgrove, NJ, 08318. The tree is located behind the parking area opposite the building.

"Little" George Washington Witness Tree of Delaware No.2 is located at the Historic Lombardy Hall, which is Granite Corinthian Masonic Lodge No.34 at 1611 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19803.

The tree is located in the front of the building.

The George Washington Witness Tree No.2 is located on private property of a 501c3. Please remember the lodge is only open to the public on specific days. It is not a museum and they don't have a presentation/tour guide for the tree. However, you can stop and visit the tree.
